Defining your EdGE: Graduate Attributes and the EdGE glossary

What is a Graduate Attribute?

The University has defined a number of ‘graduate attributes’ – skills, abilities and approaches you can develop whilst you are a student. These are things that will be valuable assets in the future whatever field of work or further study you’d like to pursue. See the MyEdGE webfolio to find out more and to start thinking about your graduate attributes.

You can use the opportunities listed in the EdGE Database to search for attributes you think you’d like to develop, such as leadership or negotiation skills. The Higher Education Academy’s Employability profiles are a useful starting-point for thinking about the attributes that may be most relevant to your course:

EdGE Glossary of useful terms

In addition to the EdGE Database, we’ve compiled an EdGE glossary to help define terms such as ‘problem solving’ or ‘responsibility’. Once you have a clear idea about how to define a particular attribute, it will become much easier to explain to others how you know that you have it. It will also give you a better idea of the sorts of experiences you need to develop yourself.

The EdGE glossary includes some useful examples of how these terms might appear on a CV or be encountered in an interview.
